EWIMID 2010

Dear Colleagues,

As the development and availability of new targeted therapies boosted important evolutions in the field of clinical immunology, many of us realized the need for more intensive interaction and collaboration not only with fundamental immunologists and with industrial partners but also with our academic colleagues from other organ-specific disciplines than our own. Therefore, we initiated in 2004 an European Working Group of leading academic physician-scientists involved in clinical immunology, rheumatology, dermatology, gastroenterology, transplantation immunology,… Our global aim is to create a forum for informal but intensive interaction and networking between translational immunologists from different organ-specific disciplines.

The keys of our organization are:
•    Focus on translational immunology with direct clinical relevance
•    Emphasis on cross-disciplinary interactions and projects
•   Strong interaction between academia and pharmaceutical partners, especially biotech companies focusing on immunomodulation and immunomonitoring

Our organization is open and democratic. Therefore, all interested partners are welcome to join this initiative.

Over the last four years, we have made a big step forward to reach this goal through the organization of the European Workshop on Immune-Mediated Inflammatory Diseases in Amsterdam in 2006, Nuremberg in 2007, London in 2008 and Cascais-Lisbon in 2009.

In line with the growing interest for this type of forum for discussion and networking, we are pleased to announce the Fifth European Workshop on Immune-Mediated Inflammatory Diseases, which will take place on December 1 – 3, 2010 in Sitges-Barcelona, Spain.

We are happy and proud that Prof. Juan Cañete and Prof. Francisco Lozano agreed to be the Scientific Chairs of this Fifth EWIMID workshop.

The workshop will again be a three-day meeting with thematic cross-disciplinary sessions as well as a lot of time for poster discussions and oral presentation of selected abstracts. We will also include 3 satellite symposia which are aimed to focus on immunomodulation and immunomonitoring, in close collaboration with pharmaceutical and biotech partners.

This year the Workshop will be preceded by a Masterclass on Psoriasis and Associated Diseases organized by Prof.Frank Nestlé (London, UK) and Bing Thio (Rotterdam, NL) on November 30 and December 1. This masterclass requires a separate registration as it is restricted to a maximum of 40 participants. Indeed, the aim is to have interactive sessions where the experts and the audience define together the actual state of the art in the field as well as the major challenges for the coming years. Accordingly, this masterclass creates an ideal environment for setting up collaborations and joined research projects.

The Workshop Chairs, the Organizing Steering Committee and Scientific Committee look forward to your active participation to the Fifth European Workshop on Immune-Mediated Inflammatory Diseases.

from: 1/12/2010 until 3/12/2010

SARB 2010

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the Society of Anaesthesia and Resuscitation of Belgium (SARB), we would like to invite you wholeheartedly to the upcoming Annual Meeting, which will deal with bleeding, thrombosis and coagulation. The meeting will take place on November 20, 2010 in the
Thermae Palace hotel in Ostend.

The issue of bleeding, thrombosis and coagulation has deliberately been chosen as it becomes a more than important topic in daily clinical practice. The correct approach with up-to-date treatment should be the mainstay in perioperative care as it may directly affect outcome in
an area where morbidity is still high.

We are very pleased to invite you all to submit an abstract for a poster or oral communication (residents meeting). Five best posters are awarded. Also allowed are posters which were already proposed in other (international) congresses. The Annual Meeting is a perfect place
to exchange expertise and a discussion forum for older and younger colleagues.

Do not miss the opportunity to join this meeting! Looking forward to meeting you all in Ostend.

Yours sincerely,

Jan Poelaert
President SARB
from: 20/11/2010 until 20/11/2010

Skull Base Workshop

Dear Colleagues
Dear Friends

On behalf of the Scientific Committee, I am very pleased and honored to invite you cordially to the “International Cerebrovascular and Skull Base Workshop”, taking place in Ghent on Sep¬tember 7-10, 2011. The congress has the Patronage of the Belgian Society of Neurosurgery (BSN).

Following the International Neurosurgical Congresses in Torino 2005, Zermatt 2007, Roma 2008, Salt Lake City 2009 and Prague 2010, I now am particularly happy and proud to invite all of you to the wonderful historical beauty of Ghent, especially during the month of September.

The promoters of this workshop are Prof. Dr. Takanori Fukushima, the Belgian Society of Neurosurgery and myself as a retiring neurosurgeon.

Together we are preparing an exciting program with state-of-the-art presentations and discussions by distinguished and outstanding international and national neurosurgical speakers. We will also offer an unforgetable social program to all of you.

In the evening we will strengthen our friendship while enjoying cocktails and dinners at world-famous historical charming places downtown.

I hope you will join us in our magnificent city and I am looking forward to welcoming you from all over the world.
Ghent is waiting for you and we will take care of you.
