Dear Colleague,
It is our pleasure to invite you to an interactive meeting on secondary fracture prevention.
Postmenopausal women with a history of fracture have an increased risk of subsequent fracture, that is highest in short term. In Europe, several recently upgraded guidelines have devoted specific recommendations on the clinical approach of patients with a fracture history.
It is the aim of the meeting 1/ to review evidence-based guidelines which focus on evaluation and subsequent fracture prevention in postmenopausal women with a fracture history (UK, France, The Netherlands, Italy) and 2/ to develop algorithms for evaluation and treatment decisions in postmenopausal women with a recent fracture.
Enclosed is the program that consists of the following components: 1/ Radiation course for technicians and specialists who need training to obtain a certificate for use of irradiation 2/ Refresher course for specialists who already have a certificate for use of irradiation 3/ Clinical session: Two subsequent interactive sessions on the evidence for case finding and treatment after a fracture 4/ Clinical session: Presentation of the guidelines from the UK, France, The Netherlands and Italy by the representatives
At the start and at the end of the meeting, the participants are invited to score the evidence and recommendations for case finding and treatment decisions in secondary fracture prevention, in order to develop algorithms that could be useful in daily practice.
We look forward to your active participation. Sincerely,
Dr. Stefaan Poriau, Chair of the Working Group of Osteoporosis at the Royal Belgian Society of Rheumatology
Prof. Dr. Frank Luyten, Chair of the Clinical Meeting
Prof. Dr. Piet Geusens, Secretary of the Working Group of Osteoporosis, Chair of the Irradiation Meeting
